Professional triathlete & exceptional athlete

Jan Stratmann

As a professional triathlete, Jan shows his power and fighting spirit in swimming, cycling and running. His dream of winning the Ironman in Hawaii is always firmly in his sights.

Who is Jan Stratmann?

Sport was an integral part of Jan Stratmann's life from a young age: whether football, skiing or cycling - he has tried out many different sports and has always focussed his free time on sport. As part of a large family with a total of five siblings, he grew up near Essen in Niederwenigern, graduated from school in 2013 and recently completed his studies with a master’s degree.

His first contact with triathlon was partly due to his love of the sport, but also because of an accident: After a skiing injury at the age of 16, his rehabilitation brought him into contact with the three triathlon sports. The fun of sport and his fighting spirit helped him get back on his feet. While football and the football pitch had been at the top of his sports list until then, his sports programme was now initially dominated by swimming training and later by all three triathlon disciplines.

Today, Jan lives with his wife in Hennef and has turned his great passion for triathlon into his profession. After some initially difficult years during the coronavirus pandemic, he has now found his rhythm and can celebrate his first major successes: most recently, he fought his way to the top of the world rankings and came third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti - an outstanding and inspiring achievement!
