The Importance of DIN EN 61439 for Practical Application

DIN EN 61439 plays an important role for our industry, but how can it be implemented in practical applications? In their day-to-day work, our experts receive numerous questions from you about this standard. In three free-of-charge webinars here on Level4, we will demonstrate how you can confidently implement and use DIN EN 61439.

Defined responsibilities

What does the standard mean for planners,
installers and users?

For many years now, DIN EN 61439 has been the binding standard for low-voltage switchgear assemblies. But there are repeatedly questions from users – the only topics mentioned here are rated load factors and their interactions, as well as design verification. Split into three in-depth, practical webinars, each lasting around 50 minutes, our specialists will provide you with a solid understanding of this standard, which is an important topic that concerns everyone in the industry. Helpful expert knowledge – live from our new Level4 desk.

Interview with Wöhner expert Alexander Rahn

Why is it useful to comply with the standard?

DIN EN 61439-1 and all subsequent parts contain regulations and requirements for installing and planning a switchgear assembly. It therefore acts as a guideline for users, for example regarding how to expertly create a panel. The aim of the standard is to standardise precisely this framework condition with regard to the current technology.

The design verification plays an important role in the standard. What exactly is a design verification and why is it necessary?

The design verification documents the fact that a system complies with the standard. A majority of the verifications can be derived from the data sheets of the products used (housing, switching devices etc.). And construction regulations in production also ensure that verifications are created. Most of the effort involved is associated with the verification relating to temperature rise and short-circuit capacity. We address this aspect in detail in our webinar series.

Both the manufacturer of the switchgear assembly and the operator of the system are obligated to carry out a design verification and to specify necessary information requested for the production of the switchgear assembly (appendix C).

How does Wöhner assist customers in the creation of design verification?

For all Wöhner products, a special data sheet for design verification can be found in the downloads area of our website alongside the general product data sheets. In this special data sheet, Wöhner comments on all 21 of the required individual verifications, explaining whether they are relevant for the respective product and if so, how the feature is documented. With the online tool,

Wöhner provides the option of creating the design verification or using it as a guideline for the customer's own design verification. In addition, customers are welcome to contact our technical hotline at any time to get answers to their questions.
